On October 24, 2025, the Flemish government officially designated Fluxys c-grid as the operator of the future CO₂ transport network in Flanders. This decision is part of the decree on the transport of carbon dioxide via pipelines and represents an important step in the development of a low-carbon industry.

For the first time, the Flemish and Walloon governments are joining forces with leading industrial companies to accelerate the roll-out of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in Belgium. On 7 November, a joint declaration was signed at the Holcim site in Obourg (Mons), paving the way for investments in CO₂ infrastructure. This positions Belgium as a crucial hub for decarbonisation in North-Western Europe.

OCAS's brand new Global Energy Transition Lab (GET-LAB) has officially opened in Zelzate. The test centre supports the development and assessment of materials for technologies that enable industrial transformation and energy transition. These include applications such as hydrogen systems and the safe transport and storage of CO₂.

Companies and institutions are increasingly focusing on CO₂ capture in order to achieve our climate targets. By entering a few technical details – such as the concentration, temperature and pressure of the CO₂ stream – Map-it CCU displays an overview of all available technologies, ranked according to suitability.

The rollout of a large-scale CO₂ pipeline network in Belgium has officially begun. This initiative, carried by Fluxys c-grid Antwerp, with partners Fluxys Belgium, Pipelink and Air Liquide, represents a major milestone in the transition to a low-carbon industry.

ArcelorMittal Belgium, a partner within the Smart Delta Resources network, aims to be climate neutral by 2050. With the Steelanol plant in Ghent, the company shows how CO (carbon monoxide) from industrial residual gases is converted into ethanol, a raw material for fuels and the chemical sector.
